Harvested in prime condition in an excellent season for Hawke's Bay, the grapes for the Glenmoira Chardonnay were gently pressed immediately they were picked and the juice settled overnight. The clear juice was fermented in 50% new oak, then aged for 9 months on lees. The primary fruit flavours of pineapple and tropical fruits were enhanced by the vanilla aromas of the oak, and the texture of the wine was increased by the lees contact.
After minimal fining and filtration the wine was bottled under screwcap to preserve the fine flavours created by the combination of a great growing season, distinguished vineyard and careful winemaking. The Glenmoira Chardonnay 2004 will drink well over the next five years and is best enjoyed with food.
